Below are alarming statistics. We are sadly aware that child abuse exists, but unaware of the frequency in which it occurs, moreover it could be happening to the child next door..

 

North Carolina Facts
-Every 5 minutes, a child is abused/neglected
-30 children died in NC from child abuse in the last year
-85% of the time the perpetrator of child abuse is the biological parent
-Child abuse is the #1 killer of pre-school children
-1 of 3 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18
-Almost all criminals report having been abused as children
-In 2002, more than 30,000 children were reported and confirmed to be victims of abuse and neglect in North Carolina

 

National Statistics
-02-03 over 4.5 million children were reported abused/neglected...900,000 were substantiated:
~60% neglected 20% physical abuse
~10% sexual abused
~10% emotional abuse
-Last year 1400 children died as a result of abuse
-Total annual cost of child abuse/neglect in the U.S. (both direct & indirect) is 95 billion dollars

These are horrible statistics. These children need us and our volunteer efforts can help them to become respectable citizens. We want to see them educated and part of our society in every segment. This is our future and we need to help them to become professional in economics, law, music industry as celebrities and many other fields. We need to save their lives and we need to save their future.
