Welcome

The Guardian ad Litem program provides volunteers who advocate for children who have been abused and/or neglected.  These children have been removed from their homes and the GALs fight in order to establish permanence while honoring the child's sense of time.  Volunteers speak up for the child's best interest and ensure that their voice is heard in court.  Our GAL volunteers come from all walks of life but all have the common goal of serving children and bettering our community!  As one of our volunteers stated: "Why wouldn't you do it if you could???"

Be the One to Pave the Way to a Brighter Future for our Children!!!

For those of you interested in becoming a GAL volunteer, new training classes are forming now. There is currently a critical need for volunteers in all of our counties. Our children need your help!

Making a Difference One Child at a Time...

The temperature is dropping and winter is vastly approaching.  We have decked our halls preparing for the holidays.  Unfortunately not everyone has a happy holiday.  Currently in Iredell County we have 242 children in foster care due to neglect and abuse.  Sometimes the children come into care with just the clothes on their backs.  They lose their homes and possessions.

At Guardian ad Litem we want to make a difference in a child’s life.  With the gracious contributions of quilts from “Stitches for a Cause”, Mr. James R. Otto and friends, we will now present every child who comes into care with a homemade quilt.  We are so excited!  Children will have something of their own to keep.  If you remember in Charlie Brown, Lioness carried his security blanket everywhere he went.  Now our children have a blanket made with love to keep them warm and protect them.

Mr. Otto is a retired police officer from Sandy Hook, Virginia.  On Friday, December 3, 2009 he delivered 20 new quilts to our children at the Guardian ad Litem office in Iredell County.  The quilts vary in size and color but have one wonderful trait they were made with loving hands.

The Guardian ad Litem volunteers give of their hearts when representing children in the court system.  If you are interested in becoming a “Voice for a Child”, please call our office at 704-878-4208 or by visiting our website at www.nccourts.org/gal.  If you are interested in making a quilt for a child or learning more about “Stitches For A Cause” contact www.stitchersforacause.wordpress.com.

During this time of year and every day throughout the year please take a moment to remember those less fortunate.  Oliver Wendell Holmes said “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”  The Guardian ad Litem Program needs people like you!  Our volunteers “MAKE A DIFFERENCE”.  Please allow us this opportunity to thank those who have helped our children for the Holidays.  We so proudly thank the employees of Walker, Robinson, Clark Insurance Agency, the Salvation Army of Iredell County and Hickory Dickory Doc of Hickory. Your generosity and selflessness will bring joy and happiness to 215 children this Christmas.  You could light your tree with the energy from their children’s smiles.

From our family to yours,

Happy Holidays!
